PGDYD


The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The RGNIYD was set up in 1993. Over the two decades the RGNIYD functions as a vital resource centre with its multi-faceted functions of offering academic programmes at Post Graduate level encompassing various dimensions of youth development, engaging in seminal research in the vital areas of youth development and coordinating Training Programmes for state agencies and the officials of youth organisation, besides the Extension and Outreach initiatives across the country. The Institute functions as a think-tank of the Ministry and premier organization of youth-related activities in the country. As the apex institute at the national level, it works in close cooperation with the NSS, NYKS and other youth organizations in the implementation of training programmes. The Institute is a nodal agency for training youth as a facilitator of youth development activities in rural, urban as also tribal areas.

 

Introduction about the programme


In order to achieve the mandate of RGNIYD and execute the priority areas of National Youth Policy 2014, RGNIYD has launched the Post-Graduate Diploma in Youth Development (PGDYD) as one of its programmes of study from January, 2016 onwards. This programme has been designed to train thousands of work force in the country who is already working and will work for the youth development.

 

Eligibility and Medium of Instruction


An eligibility criterion for getting admission is graduation from any stream from a recognized university. Medium of instruction will be in English.

 

Duration


Minimum: 1 Year
Maximum: 2 Years


One can complete the programme within 1 year. If he/she will not be able to complete the programme within a year, maximum of two years can be utilised. After two years of registration, the validity will expire and the registration will become invalid.

 

Objectives of the programme


The prime objective of this programme of study is to train thousands of professionals in the area of youth development across the nation with scientific knowledge and specific models of youth work. This programme will also target the workforce already working in the area of youth development in equipping knowledge and skills to work with youth more scientifically.

 

Mode of Delivery


The programme is on offer through ‘Convergence Mode’ in collaboration educational institutions in India. Expression of Interest from across the country was invited and 12 locations were selected to offer the programme (List of selected Partners is attached)

 

Facilitation


The learners will be facilitated with Self-Instructional Material (SIM), and field activity manual.The learners will be supervised for their field work by the qualified supervisors and counselling sessions will be conducted by the qualified educators in the area. Fee is Rs.5000/- per year (on time payment)
